Gable roofs peak at the center ridge and extend downward on two opposite sides.

Gambrel roofs are commonly observed in country homes and is also known as the barn style roof. Shed roofs consist of a single steep plane that allows for snow and rain to run off easily.  Used in contemporary style homes.
